Tour of Norway 2024, Route and Participants

Important date in Northern Europe with the Tour of Norway 2024. The short Scandinavian stage race, also in the Pro.Series category, will be held between Thursday, May 23, and Sunday, May 26, and will be a significant opportunity for some of the week-long race specialists to go after significant success. The Norwegian competition will take place in the central-southern part of the Nordic national team and will see seven WorldTour formations, six Professional category teams (none Italian), three Continental level entities and the Norwegian selection in action. Up for grabs is the place on the Roll of Honor next to that occupied by Ben Tulett, winner in 2023.

Tour of Norway 2024, Route

It begins with a moveable stage with an explosive finale, starting in Voss and finishing atop the Voss Resort after 141 kilometers and an elevation gain of 2,400 meters. Three mountain grand prix are scheduled in the second half of this opening stage, which are sure to make selection in the peloton. The final finish, where we are likely to see a tight sprint among the best climbers, is put at the end of a tough 3.9-kilometer climb with an average gradient of 5.8 percent.

Also very suitable for climbers will be the second stage, the very long Odda – Gullingen, which at 206 kilometers will be the longest of this edition. The elevation profile will be slightly jagged for the vast majority of the route, with only one official third-category Gpm placed at the halfway point. The road will begin to steepen sharply when it is 5.5 kilometers to the finish line. The final climb will be tough and selective, and will in fact have an average gradient of 8.8 percent with long stretches even over 10 percent.

The third stage of this Tour of Norway 2024 will be the only one in which we are likely to see a bunch sprint. The 178 kilometers between Sola and Egersund will have only 1,300 meters of elevation gain, much of it concentrated in the only Gpm of the day. This second-category climb along 6.4 kilometers at 3.1 percent should not create too many problems for the sprinters in the peloton, partly because it is located more than 60 kilometers from the finish line. The last 25 kilometers will be slightly jagged, but the sprinters’ teams should be able to keep the race closed until the final sprint.

The final fraction takes in the usual undulating circuit around the city of Stavanger. This year there will be five laps to complete while there will be six climbs to the Grisabakken climb, only 600 meters long but with an average gradient of 7.5 percent. It will be a short but very intense stage, with only 124 kilometers in length but very few meters totally flat and a total of 1,500 meters of positive elevation gain. The finish of the last climb will be only 7 kilometers from the finish line. A perfect distance for attackers and finisseurs.
